Spelling is an important part of learning to read and write with confidence. It helps children communicate clearly, develop accurate writing, and build a strong foundation for future learning across the curriculum.
At our school, we use Anima Phonics to begin the spelling journey. This approach supports children as they learn to segment and blend words, apply phonics knowledge securely, and develop early spelling skills.
As pupils move into Year 3 and beyond, they transition to Spelling Shed. This programme teaches spelling patterns in a structured way and supports pupils in understanding how words are formed. It also includes all statutory spelling lists for each year group, ensuring that children learn the spellings they are expected to know.
Every child has their own Spelling Shed login, which can be used both in school and at home. We encourage regular practice, and pupils can enjoy a range of interactive games that reinforce the spelling strategies taught in class.
