Curriculum

We use our exciting and engaging 'Cornerstones' curriculum enables us all to learn through real life and meaningful experiences. This is a clearly structured curriculum where learning in all subjects builds carefully from one year to the next. Click on the links to find out more.

Our clearly structured and well planned topic based approach enables us to deliver the National Curriculum Programme of Study in Y1-Y6 and the EYFS Curriculum in YR through exciting and cross curricular activities.

Maths:

We use White Rose Maths to support our planning progression and resources from Deepening Understanding, as well as NCETM and Maths Shed to support us in delivering our maths content.

While we assess progress within each lesson we plan, we formally assess each term in Year 1-Year 6 using PUMA testing. In EYFS we have a formative approach to assessment throughout the year.

English:

We use IPEELL in KS2 and Talk for Writing in KS1/EYFS.

We assess throughout our learning and at the end of each unit of writing across the year. This feeds into a termly writing assessment which is monitored on termly basis.

 Science

We follow the units within the Curriculum Maestro 2022 planning. This is based on the National Curriculum. We assess across each unit of work and then on a termly basis using the Headstart Science materials.

 Religious Education

We follow the Leicestershire Agreed Syllabus for RE across our school. This is currently being revised, with a view to the new curriculum rolling out in spring 2022.

Music

We follow the Leicestershire Music Service Music Scheme of Work. This is fully sequence scheme which runs from EYFS to Y6 and covers all of the core elements of the music curriculum. In Class Three, we underpin this knowledge with a weekly taught session from the Leicestershire Music Service. This year, we are learning clarinet.

Computing

We have chosen to follow the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) curriculum across our school. This is a clearly sequenced scheme which enables non specialists to teach high quality computing to their class. It supports our children to gain breadth of knowledge within computing and allows our teachers to explore new technologies in a scaffolded manner with their class.

French

Our weekly French sessions are planned to follow the recommended sequence within the National Curriculum. We choose resources from a range of online providers, which support our fluent French teacher, Mrs Moore, in delivering high quality sessions across Key Stage Two.

PSHE

Coram Scarf is used across our school for our PSHE sessions. This scheme is highly regarded and is regularly updated so that our children receive the most up to date and relevant teaching within this area. Class teachers deliver PSHE across the school, including our RSE (Relationhips and Sex Education), which is taught in the Spring.

Physical Education

Our Physical Education is taught as two distinct strands from EYFS onwards. The first is a 'core skills' curriculum, through REAL PE. The second is a sports and games thread, as identified in the National Curriculum. Our sessions are led by our staff, which includes a Level 5 PE trained HLTA and two sports apprentices.

Each morning, all children within KS2 also engage in a morning physical activity, as part of our Recovery Curriculum'.
