At Griffydam, PSHE is a vital part of our curriculum, supporting children’s personal development, emotional wellbeing, and social skills.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), PSHE is embedded within the Prime Areas of Learning – Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Communication and Language. Through play-based experiences, stories, and circle times, children learn to:
These early experiences prepare children for the more structured PSHE curriculum in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, where we use the SCARF programme.
SCARF stands for Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, and Friendship, and these values underpin everything we teach. Through SCARF, children learn how to keep themselves safe and healthy, build positive and respectful relationships, and develop resilience and confidence to face challenges. Lessons cover important topics such as understanding feelings, managing friendships, celebrating diversity, making healthy choices, and living responsibly in the wider world. SCARF helps our pupils grow into caring, responsible individuals who are ready for life beyond the classroom.
Everyone’s Welcome
We are proud to be part of the Everyone’s Welcome programme, which promotes equality, respect, and inclusion throughout our school community. This approach helps us celebrate diversity and challenge all forms of discrimination, ensuring that every child feels valued and safe. Through age-appropriate lessons, assemblies, and activities, we teach children about respect for others, understanding differences, and the importance of kindness. Everyone’s Welcome supports our commitment to creating a positive, inclusive environment where all pupils can thrive and develop a strong sense of belonging.
