I am Kate Wilkinson. I have 20 years teaching experience and have worked in a wide variety of schools teaching across a range of year groups. After having children, I took the decision to leave full-time teaching and to work part-time. This year, I will be working on Mondays and Tuesday afternoons in Class Two, I will be in Class One on a Tuesday morning and will be in Class Three and Four on Wednesday morning.
Hello, I am Helen Bethell. This is my fourth year teaching at Griffydam and my second in Class 4. We have a very exciting year ahead, in which we will be learning about our local area, World War 2, the Egyptians, the circulatory system, the Victorians and the Tudors.
Some of the exciting things we have to look forward to are the Science Fair at Ivanhoe, Orienteering in Donisthorpe, the residential at Condover Hall, trips to the pantomime, Derby Museum and Pickford House. In addition to all of these extra-curricular opportunities the children in Class 4 will have the opportunity to perform at the Music For Youth Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, in London!
Whilst Years 5 and 6 are challenging for the children, the team at Griffydam are incredibly supportive and passionate about the holistic development of young people prior to their next chapter at secondary school.
In addition to my role of Class Teacher, I am also on the Governing Body as a Staff Representative and I co-ordinate the subjects of Mathematics and PE and Sport within our curriculum. The teaching staff are an incredibly dedicated and supportive team and I feel very lucky to be part of this incredibly unique Primary School environment.
